Most couples have never hired a wedding DJ before. The process is not complicated but it helps to know what you are actually walking into before you start reaching out to your options. Here is exactly what working with me looks like from the first time I hear from you to the last song of the night.
Step one: the contact form
Everything starts with you reaching out. The best way to do that is to use the contact form at the bottom of my website. It takes a few seconds to fill out and gives me the basic information I need to get back to you quickly. There is no automation when you fill it out. I respond to every inquiry personally and usually within a day. I will let you know if your date is available and answer any questions before we move forward.
Step two: the contract and booking fee
There is no lengthy process involved to book me. If your date is available and you want to move forward, I send over a digital contract and collect a booking fee to hold your date. If you have any questions, we can get on a call and talk more about your wedding day. I strive to make it as simple and straightforward as I can.
The booking fee secures your date on my calendar, and the remainder is due closer to the wedding. Nothing complicated and no surprise fees.
Step three: the questionnaire
Once we are booked, the real planning starts. I send over a questionnaire that covers your music taste, your must-plays, your do-not-plays, your ceremony details, some timeline details, and your vision for the night. The more detail you put into it the better, but there are no wrong answers.
The questionnaire is designed to give me a full picture of who you are as a couple and what matters to you about your wedding before we ever get on a call together. By the time you submit it I already have a foundation to work from.
Step four: the first planning call
About six months before your wedding we get on our first planning call. This is where we start building the shape of the night together. We talk through the ceremony, rough out a timeline, and go over the moments that matter most to you. The call usually runs about an hour and is relaxed and conversational.
I also use this call to get to know you as people. The more I understand about you and your relationship the better I can make the night feel like you. You will leave with a working timeline and a clear sense of where things are headed.
Step five: the final planning call
About four weeks before your wedding day we meet again to finalize everything. By this point your other vendors are locked in, your timeline has been mostly finalized, and the details are much clearer than they were a few months ago. We go through everything together, make any adjustments, and button up the details so nothing is left open going into your wedding day.
By the end of this call the timeline is set, the music is planned, and you will not have to think about the DJ side of things again until you walk into your ceremony and reception ready to party.
Step six: the wedding day
On your wedding day, my job is to be completely present as the person running your reception. I setup and soundcheck before guests arrive so when your family and friends arrive, they walk into a space that is ready and waiting for a party. I coordinate with your other vendors for every announcement and moment and run the dance floor from the grand entrance to the last song.
My job is to throw an incredible party and make sure your night feel completely like you. Your job is to be fully present at your wedding.
A few things worth knowing going in
Book early. Dates in spring and fall fill up fast. If you have a date in mind the best time to reach out is as soon as you have your venue booked.
The questionnaire is worth your time. Couples who put thought into it get more out of the planning call and end up with a night that feels more personal.
Communicate freely. If something changes, if you have a new idea, or if you are not sure about something, reach out. The planning process should feel collaborative not transactional. I am available via text and email around the clock.
